Film Festival: Voices Against Gender-Based Violence

One in three women experiences gender-based violence (GBV) in her lifetime globally. On the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, your are invited to the Scandinavia House on 4 December from 11 am to 2:30 pm for a mini film festival followed by discussions. The movies include short fiction works and documentaries, covering several aspects including child, early and forced marriage, women’s rights and accountability to victims of conflict-related sexual violence. The 10th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations

The 10th United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Global Forum is scheduled to take place in the city of Cascais, Portugal, on 25-27 November 2024, under the theme "United in Peace: Restoring Trust, Reshaping the Future - Reflecting on Two Decades of Dialogue for Humanity." The forum will convene members of the UNAOC Group, political leaders, international organizations, private sectors, civil society, academia, youth and others to address the global peace and security challenges. Academic Conference on Africa on 3 December

The UN Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) is convening the 2024 Academic Conference on Africa on 3 December. This hybrid event will take place online and in-person at Conference Room 2 at the UN Headquarters in New York. The conference aims to elevate African scholars and policymakers to the forefront of discussions, fostering collaboration and generating African-led solutions to critical issues surrounding the rule of law and human rights. It will be open to all participants, including representatives from civil society organizations, the private sector, academia and the media. Learn more and register now.
















Global Policy Dialogue: Preparing the Most Vulnerable 

Developing countries, especially those in vulnerable situations, are among the worst affected by global challenges. On 25 November, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and UN Academic Impact (UNAI) hosted a special Global Policy Dialogues for the Classroom, featuring the latest "World Social Report." UN experts explored how converging crises impact social development and emphasized the need for global action. Watch the recording.









Mark Your Calendar: Doha World Negotiation Day 2024

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and ADN Group announce that Doha World Negotiation Day 2024 will take place in Doha, Qatar, on 9 December. It will provide a high-level forum to discuss the role of negotiation in today’s challenging world. The agenda includes an opening ceremony, two high-level panels, an award ceremony, and a closing speech. The event is open to the public upon registration. What was agreed at COP29?

The UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) closed on 24 November with a new finance goal to help countries to protect their people and economies against climate disasters: Triple finance to developing countries, from the previous goal of USD 100 billion annually, to USD 300 billion annually by 2035. While some delegations applauded the deal, many from the developing world, including Bolivia and Nigeria, expressed their deep disappointment, arguing it was an “insultingly low” financing target. United Nations Interpretation Service: Speech Bank


The United Nations Interpretation Service Speech Bank is a resource for interpreters, students, and teachers to practice or prepare for interpretation tests and Competitive Exams for Language Positions (CELP). It features UN speeches and topics commonly discussed at the UN, categorized by language, length, difficulty, and year. Speeches can also be searched by keyword or topic (e.g., climate change, SDGs). Explore the platform and enhance your skills.











David Beckham: Fighting for Children's Rights

Football legend David Beckham has been a dedicated UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2005, advocating for children’s rights worldwide. In 2015, he launched the 7 Fund for UNICEF, focused on breaking down barriers like bullying, child marriage, and lack of education. Over the years, Beckham has traveled the globe to raise awareness and funds for critical issues affecting children, from malnutrition to violence. Leadership is at the heart of quality education.
